Understanding our bodies can be challenging, especially for those who have experienced trauma. Tuning into sensations may feel threatening. Take it slow to reconnect and feel safe. This process, called titration, is one step at a time. Surprisingly, pleasant sensations can be overwhelming. We often focus on pain as a coping mechanism, but we can intentionally experience soothing sensations, even for a few breaths. Stress signals possible threats, keeping us alert. By understanding our body's reactions without judgment, we can feel safe and fully embrace our humanity. Our senses let us live in the present.

We support this translation and guide the client's awareness towards their body's sensations. It is important to help the client trust themselves and explore their unique experiences. As a practitioner, it is helpful to stay present with the client's physical sensations, which empowers their own system to trust itself. Our role is to identify where the client may be experiencing doubt or resistance to their sensations and help them make sense of it. In other words, our cognitive awareness can give labels to raw and wordless sensations before assigning meaning to them.
